Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has announced that all the young patients affected by the horrific stabbing incident in Southport last Monday are now out of hospital.
The tragic event saw three little girls – Bebe King, Alice Dasilva Aguiar and Elsie Dot Stancombe – lose their lives after an assailant stormed into the Hart Space pregnancy and community centre on Hart Street. The violent outbreak also resulted in serious injuries to eight kids and two adults. Alder Hey became a critical hub for treating most of the wounded children, with five initially fighting for their lives in critical condition.
Now, the hospital has joyfully reported that all the children they treated have recovered and been discharged.
In a heartfelt statement released today from its East Prescot Road location, the hospital expressed: “We are really pleased to be able to share that all the children involved in last Monday’s awful incident in Southport who were under our care have now been safely discharged from Alder Hey.”
The statement continued with gratitude: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in responding to the incident or caring for anyone affected by it, especially our colleagues in the NHS, Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service. We also want to say thank you to all who sent well wishes to Alder Hey and to the families affected. Our heartfelt sympathies remain with all those affected by last Monday’s tragic incident,” reports the Liverpool Echo.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that all victims of Monday’s horrific attack have been discharged from hospital, except for one child who is receiving care at another facility. Among the injured was 35-year-old Leanne Lucas, a yoga instructor who had organised the Taylor Swift dance party at the Hart Space when the incident occurred.
She has been hailed as a hero for protecting several children during the onslaught, which left her critically wounded.
Jonathan Hayes, who operates a business adjacent to the Hart Space dance studio where the attack unfolded, was also gravely hurt after being stabbed in the leg while attempting to intervene.
Heidi Liddle, another teacher, has also been commended for her bravery. She reportedly hid children in a bathroom to shield them from the knife-wielding attacker.
A 17-year-old, Axel Rudakubana, has been hit with three murder charges, 10 counts of attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article in public. He made his appearance at Liverpool Crown Court last Thursday, with a trial date set for January 20, 2025.
The town of Southport continues to mourn the loss of the three girls killed in last week’s attacks and extends its thoughts to all those affected and injured. Last night, hundreds of locals gathered in the town centre to ‘blow bubbles and kisses into heaven’ in memory of Alice, Elsie, and Bebe.
Following the attack, a vigil in Southport descended into a riot. Since then, riots have spread around the country, with over 370 arrests now having been made.
