Twist in case of lacking Brit who made airport phonecall earlier than vanishing

A British man who made a last phone call to his girlfriend before he disappeared in Thailand may actually be in a European country, according to his sister.

Simon Robinson, 27, from Skegness, Lincolnshire, was due to fly back to the United Kingdom on July 26, but he had reportedly never boarded his flight at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Simon’s phone was detected in the Thai capital, but was switched off with no attempts made to contact friends or family.

Worried family and friends now say they have contacted the British Embassy in Bangkok to help locate Simon. However, with no progress on the case, they have turned to social media to appeal for help and revealed that Simon actually may have boarded his flight, which was due to do a connection in Helsinki, Finland.

Sister Sarah Robinson-Dale said she was “going out of my mind” with worry, but shared hope in an update on Facebook on Sunday (August 4).

She said that despite the UK police saying Simon didn’t get on his Thailand-Finland connecting flight, she has now received word that he may have done.

“We have received confirmation that Simon did board the flight on the 26th July,” Sarah wrote. “A massive thank you to everyone that has shared and the kind people that have found this information out as the authorities at both sides haven’t done anything.

Sarah added that the confirmation came “even though the UK police confirmed he didn’t” (board the plane).

She added: “All anyone can do at the moment is if you are in Bangkok and see him contact the police or ask Simon to call me and if you’re in another country just keeping sharing the picture. As soon as I have any information I will update on here. Forever grateful, let’s get Simon home.”

The Sun reported that Simon was originally supposed to stay abroad until August 3, but phoned his girlfriend to let her know he was coming earlier on July 26.

But his girlfriend hasn’t heard from him since, according to The Lincolnite.

Friend Demi Guttesen added yesterday that Simon is still “very much missing”.

She said: “Simon’s whereabouts are still unknown and he is still very much missing but now the focus is on Helsinki, Finland where his connecting flight would have landed at the time he was last active on his social media.

“If anyone has any connections in Helsinki or Finland please let me know. Thank you.”
