Liz Truss storms off stage after pranksters unfurl big Daily Star lettuce

Failed Prime Minister Liz Truss stormed off stage in embarrassment after a giant banner with the Daily Star’s infamous lettuce was unfurled above her head during her book tour.

The woman whose entire political career will be defined by being outlasted by a rotting lettuce purchased by the Daily Star during her chaotic – yet brief – time as Prime Minister was promoting her new book Ten Years to Save The West.

Appearing in a dark room, on a dingy stage somewhere in America, Truss was wearing (ironically) a bright green dress, and talking about Donald Trump when suddenly the banner slowly appeared from on top of the stage above her.

Yes it is, Liz

In the centre of it was a giant lettuce with googley eyes and the words “I crashed the economy”.

Liz continued to talk about Trump, blissfully unaware of what was happening until some random bloke appeared behind her to tell her…while the other random bloke interviewing her looked confused.

Truss, who lasted just 49 days as Prime Minister, looked shocked and said: “That’s not funny” as she quickly exited the stage in a blaze of green glory to muted applause from the audience – who were seemingly unbothered by her leaving and probably weren’t too familiar with British salad-based humour.

The stunt was later claimed by the satire group Led By Donkeys, who posted a photo of the moment on Twitter/X and wrote: “Liz Truss is on a pro-Trump speaking tour. So we dropped a strategically-positioned remote-controlled lettuce banner.”

The choice of outfit for Truss was quickly noticed by others on social media as one wrote: “She matches the lettuce,” while ending the post with a crying emoji.

Another posted: “Whoever advised her to wear that lettuce green dress did great work as well.” And a third commented: “She even dressed for the part.”

The lettuce will forever dominate Liz’s political legacy

Truss has refused to admit her love for the lettuce, which dominated the final weeks of her ridiculous time in office before she handed over the keys of power to Rishi Sunak. The only loving comment she made about her rotting sibling was when speaking to Ireland’s RTE last year.

She said, before apparently telling the interviewer off for daring to ask about the popular salad vegetable: “I don’t think it was particularly funny, I think it’s puerile.”

Wait until she hears what the nation has to say about her 49 days in office . . .
