A video allegedly depicting a memorial service for British teen Jay Slater showed raving mourners clutching drinks and dancing to high tempo music.
In scenes remiscant to the techno festival he travelled to Tenerife for, friends and family of the 19-year-old Lancashire lad gathered in a marquee to remember him in a unique way after his funeral, according to videos posted to X and TikTok.
The apprentice brick layer was first reported missing two months ago after he vanished while on holiday in Tenerife. A 29-day search followed until Jay’s body was found last month.

His mum Debbie Duncan, 55, and dad, Warren Slater, 58, returned him to the UK and gave him his final send-off on August 10 at Accrington Cemetery Chapel in Accrington, Lancashire.
And now, videos emerging on social media show a party at odds with the sombre scenes at his funeral. One clip posted to TikTok even shows his mum Debbie, dressed in blue, ‘raving’ with fellow mourners.
“Jay’s mum and friends raving for Jay Slater hope you found the light Jay keep dancing and raving up there and keep smiling. Justice needs to be served,” the poster wrote.
The caption overlayed on the clip says ‘Go Debbie, raving for JAY SLATER. Celebration of life. He’d have loved this.’
The DJ who provided music at the event, DJ Ruby P, mixed in front of a banner adorned with pictures of Jay with the strapline ‘think of me and smile’.
On her own account she said she ‘helped celebrate Jay’s life by DJing’.
In the clip, the song ‘Forever Young’ by Alphaville plays. One commenter wrote: “This breaks my heart but you’ve all done him so proud. He’d be dancing with you all on that day, keep [an] eye on his mum, she will need everyone’s support. She won’t be as strong as his dad and brother are.”
Another said: “The best celebration of life I’ve seen, just how Jay would of wanted it.”
However, people on X were less empathetic. One person wrote: “DJ after a funeral is absolutely mental.”
“This where the £60k GoFundME money went,” a second person joked, referring to a fundraiser set up to support the search for Jay when he was still missing.
Another troll said: “Guess my 5er to the GoFundMe was used for a good cause LMAO.”
