A mum-of-four who opted for unique names for her children revealed that she’s been subjected to online trolling and even death threats.
Crystal Docherty, 34, chose distinctive names for her kids – one of which is named after a fashion label – as she wanted them to stand out.
She was influenced by her Traveller heritage when picking the names. However, the mum faced some brutal backlash over her choices for her band of sprogs.

Cruel trolls said that – Stinger, nine, Solitaire-Dior, seven, Shadoramay, six, and Malibu-Alaska, three – will be bullied at school due to their unusual names. She even claims to have received death threats over her decision.
Despite this, Crystal, an aesthetics assistant from Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland, remains unrepentant.
She said: “I have been upset and angry when I get trolled for their names. You shouldn’t make fun of peoples’ names. There are some names that sound weird to others but it’s up to you what names you like and choose.
“There are lots of Marys and other old-fashioned names so why not have different ones? But I don’t really care what people say.”
Crystal, who is separated from the father of her children, named her son Stinger after his great-grandfather, Stinger Loveridge, which she described as “an easy choice”.
The mum with a flair for unique names, has revealed the inspiration behind her daughters’ monikers, drawing from everything from James Bond to precious gems and exotic locales.
She explained: “That name is also after the diamond – and I just added Dior because it sounded nice.”
In her “Gypsy culture”, ‘Shadora’ signifies ‘holy’, and she jazzed it up with ‘May’ for an extra twist of uniqueness. Crystal said: “I think she is the only Shadoramay in the world – I’ve seen Shadoras and I’ve seen Mays, but not both together.”
Her youngest’s name was sparked by the sunny vibes of Malibu Beach, pitched by her cousin.
Despite copping flak online, with some keyboard warriors even dishing out death threats, Crystal stands by her distinctive choices.
She declared: “In our Gypsy culture, people don’t have problems with names like these.”
“We keep to ourselves, so the naysayers claiming my kids will cop bullying are barking up the wrong tree.”
“In our circles, they’re safe from ridicule; it’s outsiders who kick up a fuss.”
