Jay Slater’s mum Debbie lastly speaks out on Rolex and ‘drug’ rumours

The mum of Jay Slater has finally addressed the rumours surrounding the “stolen” Rolex watch and “drug cartel” rumours surrounding her son’s death.

Several weeks after the body was discovered in Masca, Tenerife, after a near-month-long search, mum Debbie has commented on claims that the 19-year-old stole a £12k watch before going missing. And she also commented on claims he was involved in drug gangs.

She said, speaking to The Sun: “He would never have been involved in anything like that.

“He had only been in Tenerife three days – and was at a festival with friends which had wristbands, security and an itinerary.

“I’ve no idea where these drug stories have come from and the stuff about him stealing a watch is nonsense. The people saying stuff about him didn’t know Jay and they don’t know us.

“He hasn’t been here to defend himself against all these horrible stories that were going on around the world about him.”

Despite the comments, wild theories surrounding his death are very much alive and thriving on the internet. The 19-year-old Lancashire teen’s body was found in a mountainous ravine five weeks after he vanished after attending a rave in Tenerife in June.

While many online sleuths were quick to offer their conspiracy theories, an autopsy revealed the apprentice bricklayer suffered extensive injuries consistent with a fall from height. And as Jay’s family try to move on with their lives, it seems there are many who refuse to let their theories die.

Videos uploaded to YouTube in recent days have seen an influx of influencers discect Jay’s social media accounts and that of his friends, convinced there is more to the story. One said: “Although Jay has gone, the case is still not over…someone is lying.”

Questions remain for much of the British public

Many seem fixated on the sequence of events surrounding Jay’s last known movements and claim there are inconsistencies over certain timings.

Some online detectives have also questioned why Jay would send a screenshot of his location to friends rather than share a pin which would allow pals to zoom in for a clearer picture of his wherabouts.

The screenshots, it was pointed out, also appeared to have more than 1% battery.

The fact that Jay travelled back to a remote Airbnb with two unknown men before refusing a lift back to his resort the next morning, opting to make his way back on foot, is also something sleuths can’t seem to get their heads around.
