Brits face new heatwave this month as climate maps present ’30C blast’ incoming

The UK is bracing for a bit of a weather rollercoaster, with the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto set to bring a spell of rain and gusty winds this week. But don’t pack away the sunnies just yet – forecasters reckon heatwave conditions will soon make a comeback.

Advanced weather modelling maps suggest temperatures will be on the rise at the tail end of August and the start of September.

Brits can expect the mercury to rise into the “high-20Cs” quite widely during this hot spell, according to Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden. He also suggested some areas might see temperatures in the “mid-30Cs”.

Madden pinpointed Sunday (August 25) as the day when we should expect to see conditions improve. He said: “This will initially see temperatures climbing and ranging into the mid to high-20Cs, at the very least quite widely to begin with.

“However, the expected heat surges are now highly likely to be significant throughout late August and well into September, and there is no reason as to why we couldn’t see further extreme temperatures in at least the low to mid-30Cs during these developments.”

GFS weather model maps show a similar outlook, with maximum temperatures possibly reaching 29C in south-east England on Saturday, August 31, and high-20Cs expected more broadly across England. On Sunday, September 1, the same model suggests temperatures could potentially climb as high as 30C in the south-east of England.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for August 23 to September 1 indicates “some short-lived very warm conditions in the south and east” are possible. It further states: “Wetter weather is signalled to become even more confined to northern and western areas, with longer drier periods developing more widely elsewhere.”

For September 2 to September 16, the Met Office adds: “A good deal of dry and settled weather is likely across the UK during the first week of September […] After a generally warm start to September, temperatures will gradually revert to being be cooler in the northwest, and warm to average in the southeast.”
