Waterloo Station is paralysed because of ‘tresspassers on the tracks’

Waterloo Station has been brought to a standstill as ‘trespassers on the tracks’ cause huge crowds to gather in the terminals.

Huge crowds were seen waiting by the station’s notice boards after a number of trains were severely delayed or cancelled this evening.

Network Rail said services in and out of the London station were experiencing ‘severe disruption’ due to the knock-on impact of an earlier trespass.

The railway company expected disruption to continue until the end of the day, adding that it was ‘working hard to get customers home’.

According to the Metro, lines have been reopened after police dealt with a ‘trespassing’ incident at Gillingham this afternoon – which led to departures grinding to a halt.

Trains running between Wimbledon and Surbiton may still be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.

Journeys between Richmond and Willesden Junction may be also be cancelled or revised after a fire next to the track between Gunnersbury and South Acton means that all lines are blocked.

South Western Railway advised its customers to use alternative operators to complete their journeys and confirmed that its tickets could be used on other services.

In a statement, Network Rail said: ‘Due to the knock-on impact of an earlier trespass there is severe disruption to services into and out of London Waterloo this evening.

‘We expect disruption to continue until the end of the day. We’re really sorry for the disruption to your journeys this evening, and we are working hard to get customers home.’
