A married judge accused of bonking two female court bailiffs has pleaded to keep his job because of Sex and the City.
Brian Lovell, a Garfield County associate district judge, is in trouble with the state of Oklahoma due to “inappropriate relationships” with two female bailiffs, which allegedly culminated in him sleeping with one of them in a courthouse.
Lovell, 59, admitted to his relationship with the first female bailiff which he claimed lasted from February to October 2011, involving liaisons at their workplace during working hours.

There’s lots of quality news coming out of the US.
The judge denied the pair ever did the deed at the courthouse as that was an honour allegedly reserved for the second bailiff in the story.
According to the Mail, the second bailiff told officials she was “proud” of the table she had sex with Lovell on. This second woman was hired after the first one voluntarily resigned in 2011, and struck up a relationship with the judge in July or August 2023 that lasted a few months.
After an ouster petition was launched against Lovell, his attorneys claimed the judge should not be slammed for the alleged affairs because sex is “no longer the unforgivable sin it once was”.
The Oklahoman reports his lawyers pointed to highly sexualised popular culture references including Fifty Shades of Grey, Sex and the City and Marvin Gaye songs.
Oklahoma’s Court on the Judiciary, the body that filed the ouster petition, claimed the second bailiff and the judge frequently exchanged sexually explicit text messages throughout working hours. These lewd messages also allegedly referenced a raunchy encounter in the bailiff’s office.
Lovell neither admitted nor denied the racy affair with the second bailiff, who has since resigned. The judge said: “If it did happen, it was a private sexual relationship between consenting adults.”
Lovell hit the headlines last September when he “opened fire on parked cars and intentionally crashed into a woman’s vehicle because she cut him off in traffic”. When reporters came to his house, they were greeted by a shirtless Lovell at his front door.
