Michael Smith spelling trolled as followers say ‘thank god you are a darts participant’

Darts ace Michael Smith was ruthlessly mocked on social media by fans for an innocuous spelling mistake he made.

The 2023 Paddy Power PDC World Champion looks set to enjoy some time off over the next week, taking to social media to reveal he and his family would be off to Mexico on a 10-day break. Smith also detailed on Instagram how he would be taking a month-long break to rest, recharge and come back refreshed.

However, his harmless post was jumped upon by darts fans on social media, with one fan even harshly claiming it was a good job Smith was a darts player after seeing his spelling mistake.

Taking to social media, Smith posted a photo of himself with his kids, writing on X: “Nice way to start my 4 weeks brake. First stop Mexico for 10 days.” However, while there was nothing controversial about the post, that didn’t stop darts fans on social media from roasting Smith for his Mexico “brake”.

One wrote in response: “4 weeks brake is what I’d call significantly poor stopping distance.” A second added: “Thank god you made it as a darts player.” A third said: “Be careful not to brake anything.”

A fourth joked: “Always nice to have an opportunity to slow down, away from the stresses of life..” And a fifth added: “Can everyone just give this guy a brake.”

Clearly, Smith noticed his mistake, with the darts star taking to Instagram to post a video similar to the photo with his kids with an updated caption that read: “Nice way to start my 4 weeks break.

“First stop Mexico for 10 days.” And thankfully for Smith, the majority of the comments on his holiday post however were much kinder, with fans of the 33-year-old wishing him well and to enjoy his time off.

“Enjoy. You have earned it Michael!” said one fan, with a second adding: “See the spelling police are out in numbers today! Have a great time with your family.” And a third well wisher said: “Have a wonderful time Michael.”
