Lily Allen has been slammed by fans after she admitted she got rid of her dog when it ate her and her children’s passports and visas.

The singer, 39, made the confession on her Miss Me? podcast, complaining that adopting the pooch ‘ruined her life’ after it was cost a fortune to replace the documents – adding it prevented her daughters seeing their father for months.

In the wake of Lily’s comments, many fans were quick to share their thoughts on X, slamming the star for choosing to send the puppy ‘back to the home.’

Posts included: ‘Did she take responsibility for leaving the passports somewhere a puppy could get to them? No. She got rid of the dog. What an awful person;

‘That’s her fault, not the poor dogs. She’s clearly an idiot of the highest order for not keeping important documents away from animals;’

‘How on earth did Lily Allen think that this would make her look relatable as opposed to absolutely awful. I know that it is hard to take accountabiliy for our own f**k ups, but leaving passports in reach of a puppy is HER fault. That poor dog, and her poor children;’

‘There are no badly behaved dogs @lilyallen only badly behaved owners. A dog did not ruin your life, you ruined your own life by not being responsible for your belongings;’

‘Sorry but why didn’t the silly woman put the passports and visas in a place where the dog can’t get it like a safe or something;’

Lily had previously confessed that she and her daughters had adopted a dog back in 2021, but then said that the pooch ‘ruined her life’ after it ate her and her children’s passports and visas.

The Not Fair hitmaker added that the effort of replacing her documents turned out to be a ‘logistical nightmare’.

She also told how her ex-husband Sam Cooper wouldn’t let her use her now husband David Harbour‘s surname on the replacement passports – a bone of contention with the Stranger Things actor.

But despite her nightmare with her previous dog, Allen is soon planning to get another pooch, which she and her daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, have decided to call Jude Bellingham.

Lily, who lives in New York with David, 49, and her children, didn’t specify which dog she was referring to but it can be assumed that it was the puppy – named Mary – whom she and David adopted from New York City-based non-profit Animal Haven in 2021.

She said: ‘We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home.

‘She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in.

‘And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was in Covid and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.

‘And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports.

‘And I just couldn’t look at her. I was like “you’ve ruined my life”.’

The Smile hitmaker went on: ‘Passports weren’t the only thing she ate, she was a very badly behaved dog and I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak.’

Asked on her Miss Me? podcast if with her new passport, she took the surname of her husband Harbour, who she married two years ago, two years after divorcing builder Cooper, she replied: ‘No, and this is quite a bone of contention.

‘I still have my ex-husband’s name because I’ve got two children with the man, and it’s hard to travel with children if you haven’t got the same surname.

‘And he wasn’t that up for letting me change the kids’ names to Harbour so I’ve kept my ex-husband’s name.

‘David and I have joint bank accounts and so it’s quite annoying for him to have me with my Amex card with my ex-husband’s name on it. I’m sure that stings.’

Allen said the new puppy the family have set their hearts on is a chihuahua mix.

She told her friend, broadcaster Steve Jones: ‘We maybe are getting a new puppy in the next couple of weeks.

‘Me and the girls have been thinking about a name and we settled on Jude Bellingham.’

It comes after David revealed his wife Lily’s most annoying habit and why he had already decided he wanted to marry by their third date.

The actor, who plays Jim Hopper in smash hit Netflix series Stranger Things, said the singer had what he called a ‘unique’ strange ick – making him stay in a room with her when he has other things to do, but then not speaking to him.

David said: ‘She does this all the time – so she’ll be downstairs in the kitchen, maybe cooking or doing something, and I’ll be trying to live my life, do various things, and she’ll call me into the kitchen.

‘And it’ll be for some reason like “David, David, do we have any cheese?”

‘I’ll (go to the kitchen), be like “Yeah, there’s cheese here”. And then she’ll be like “Where are you going?”

‘And I’m like “Babe, I’m just going to live my life”.

‘She just looks at me disappointed that I was going to go do my day so I sit at the kitchen table, but she doesn’t want to talk or interact.

‘She just wants me to be there as a presence.’

When asked by Lily’s best friend Miquita Oliver why he thought his wife did it, Harbour told the Miss Me? podcast: ‘I know exactly why, but it is a deeply psychological thing.’

He then said ‘This is one of those moments where my wife said ‘Do not reveal too much’,’ but added: ‘She just likes the comfort of people being with her in a room.

‘I think she really values it, but she just doesn’t want to directly interact. She really values it though.’
