Lily Allen has been slammed by PETA and and sent a toy dog, after she admitted that she returned her pooch to an animal shelter when it ate her and her children’s passports and visas.

The animal charity are thought to be furious with the singer, 39, after she confessed what she had done on her Miss Me? podcast.

According to The Sun, the star received the stuffed animal and a strongly worded letter from Elisa Allen at the organisation that read: ‘It really is the only animal you should be bringing into your home.

‘Dogs should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient.’

MailOnline has contacted Lily’s reps for a comment.

Lily, who lives in New York with her actor husband David Harbour, 49, and children Ethel, 13 and Marnie, 11, made the admission to her friend and fellow co-host Miquita Oliver, complaining that adopting the pooch ‘ruined her life’ after it cost a fortune to replace the documents – and added it prevented her daughters seeing their father for months.

She said: ‘She was a very badly behaved dog and I tried very hard with her but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.’

In the wake of her comments, many of Lily’s fans were quick to share their thoughts on X, slamming the star for choosing to send the puppy ‘back to the home.’

The Not Fair hitmaker added that the effort of replacing her documents turned out to be a ‘logistical nightmare’.

She also told how her ex-husband Sam Cooper wouldn’t let her use her now husband David Harbour‘s surname on the replacement passports – a bone of contention with the Stranger Things actor.

But despite her nightmare with her previous dog, Lily said she is planning to get another pooch, which she and her daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 11, have decided to call Jude Bellingham, after the footballer.

Lily didn’t specify which dog she was referring to but it can be assumed that it was the puppy – named Mary – whom she and David adopted from New York City-based non-profit Animal Haven in 2021.

She said: ‘We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport and so I took her back to the home.

‘She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas in.

She said: ‘Because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports’ [pictured with Marnie, left, and Ethel, right in 2022]

‘And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced, because it was in Covid and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.

‘And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports.

‘And I just couldn’t look at her. I was like “you’ve ruined my life”.’

The Smile hitmaker went on: ‘Passports weren’t the only thing she ate, she was a very badly behaved dog and I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn’t work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel’s back so to speak.’

Asked on her Miss Me? podcast if with her new passport, she took the surname of her husband Harbour, who she married two years ago, two years after divorcing builder Cooper, she replied: ‘No, and this is quite a bone of contention.

‘I still have my ex-husband’s name because I’ve got two children with the man, and it’s hard to travel with children if you haven’t got the same surname.

‘And he wasn’t that up for letting me change the kids’ names to Harbour so I’ve kept my ex-husband’s name.

‘David and I have joint bank accounts and so it’s quite annoying for him to have me with my Amex card with my ex-husband’s name on it. I’m sure that stings.’

Lily said the new puppy the family have set their hearts on is a chihuahua mix.

She told her friend, broadcaster Steve Jones: ‘We maybe are getting a new puppy in the next couple of weeks.

‘Me and the girls have been thinking about a name and we settled on Jude Bellingham.’
