Peace-loving nations know Putin should fail for the world to be protected

As Ukrainians yesterday marked Independence Day – the third since Russia‘s illegal invasion – they are not just fighting for their lives but also for our shared security and the integrity of the international rules-based system.

That is why the UK has committed to providing £3 billion a year in military aid to Ukraine for as long as it takes.

Alongside conventional warfare, Russia is also seeking to destroy Ukraine’s cultural heritage and national identity. Why? Because so long as Ukraine’s culture and sense of identity survive, its people will always find the will and the means to fight back. Chillingly, Russia is going after Ukraine’s children, too. Thousands have been snatched from their families, deported to Russia, and brainwashed to sever the connection to their homeland.

We will support Ukraine’s irreversible path towards Nato. (Ukrainian soldiers take part in a casualty simulation training excercise operated by Britain’s armed force)

It is critical that Kyiv and London continue working together to increase the economic pressure on Russia. (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addresses a joint prss conference)

Ukraine, with its resilient people, has a rightful place as part of Europe’s security architecture. (British Foreign Minister David Lammy speaks at a press conference in Jerusalem)

We are determined to hold those responsible to account, and support work to ensure allegations of war crimes are fully and fairly investigated.

The UK has been one of the largest suppliers of military aid to Ukraine, has been training the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was the first European country to provide aid. Ukraine will always remember this brave leadership.

We will support Ukraine’s irreversible path towards Nato. Ukraine, with its resilient people, has a rightful place as part of Europe’s security architecture.

It is critical that Kyiv and London continue working together to increase the economic pressure on Russia. The G7 has been clear that Russia must pay the price for its illegal invasion. Together with our international partners, we will explore all lawful routes to using Russian assets, so Moscow pays the price.

Together, we can defeat the false Russian narrative about this war being ‘The West against the rest’. The reality is that peace-loving nations across the globe understand that Russian aggression must fail in order for the world to be safe. The UK and Ukraine will stand together in this fight for freedom to prevail over tyranny.
