Arne Slot delivers sensible response to Liverpool banner throughout first dwelling sport

Arne Slot experienced the electric atmosphere of Anfield for the first time in a competitive match as his Liverpool team faced off against Thomas Frank’s Brentford on Sunday.

The Dutch gaffer couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Liverpool tenure, having secured a win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. However, the real test came as he stepped at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time, undoubtedly with butterflies in his stomach.

But any pre-match jitters were swiftly calmed by the warm reception from the Kop, with fans waving banners and flags in support of their new leader. One heartfelt banner proclaimed: “From Bergentheim to Anfield, we got your back Arne.”

Spotting the tribute, Slot flashed a wide smile and acknowledged the crowd with an enthusiastic thumbs-up.

Slot has big shoes to fill as only the second manager to take the helm at Liverpool since 2015, following the departure of the iconic Jurgen Klopp at the close of the previous season, reports Liverpool.com.

While Klopp had no hand in choosing his successor, he expressed admiration for Slot in an ESPN Netherlands interview published over the weekend, signalling his approval of Liverpool’s choice.

“Arne, yeah. Really good coach,” Klopp expressed. “I was really happy when I heard that Liverpool was going for Arne Slot.

“I wasn’t involved in anything, it should not be like that, and I’m not this kind of guy in the background, still having some strings and stuff. Like I don’t want that. The club is too big, too good. [The] People are too good.

“A lot of things changed since we left. But the only concern for me was, will they get a good coach? Liverpool was early and Liverpool got a top, top, top solution in Arne Slot.”
