Paul Gascoigne has explained why he thinks former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp can become the next England manager.
Klopp left Liverpool at the end of last season after nine-and-a-half years in charge at Anfield, and given his availability and time spent in England, he has been touted to potentially return to management in charge of the Three Lions following Gareth Southgate’s departure after the Euro 2024 final
While the England job is yet to be permanently filled, with U21 boss Lee Carsley stepped into the role in an interim basis, fans are still mooting Klopp and Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe as their ideal picks to lead the Three Lions.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport, Gascoigne revealed from his time at his boyhood Newcastle why he feels Howe will remain in charge at St James’ Park, he said: “They wanted Eddie Howe, but managing Newcastle, what a great job it is.
“When I played for Newcastle, we were bottom of the league but this was 1998 or something and our fans were singing ‘we’re gonna win the league’ whilst we’re getting beat 3-0 by Liverpool and our fans were singing that.

“In Newcastle, they work all week to get their wages to spend on matchdays. If Newcastle win a game, it’s like winning a cup final with those fans. It would be nice if Eddie went for it (England job) but they’ll end up getting another foreign manager I think.”
Gazza then dropped Klopp’s name in the discussion, he continued: “Jurgen Klopp maybe? Yeah, there were talks about him. He’s unbelievably good, he finished second bottom in his league in Germany and got sacked.
“Imagine him sitting in the house and his doorbell goes, who is it? Sky Sports saying you’re going to be the manager of Liverpool, he did amazing there.”
Klopp previously addressed speculation he would replace Southgate, insisting that it would be a total “loss of face” if he was to go back on his decision to take a sabbatical from the game after leaving Liverpool.
“Nothing at all. Job-wise, nothing at all. No club, no country. Some people must not have heard that part,” Klopp said. “That would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if I said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you’.”
Carsley is currently set to take charge of England’s Nations League fixtures next month, beginning away against Ireland in his first match on September 7 before a home tie against Finland three days later.
