Ivan Toney’s potential switch to Chelsea could be in jeopardy as Manchester United loom with a shock eleventh-hour bid.
Brentford are reportedly planning to offload Toney by Friday, sparking interest from top-flight English clubs and sides in Saudi Arabia. Despite their massive summer outlay, the Stamford Bridge squad are weighing up a bid for Toney, convinced they can nab him on the cheap from the Bees.
Toney has one year remaining on his Brentford deal, signalling this summer as the prime opportunity for the Bees to rake in some cash.

With Brentford eyeing around £40million for their star man slashed dramatically from the £100m+ they were holding out for in January Chelsea reckon they’re in with a chance, reports the Express.
However, it’s not all smooth sailing for Toney’s signature. According to The Evening Standard, United have swooped in late and are chatting up the wantaway frontman, though no official bids have been lodged just yet.

Thomas Frank was tight-lipped over Toney’s situation before their Anfield jaunt, stating: “Ivan trained the whole week. Trained with good attitude in every aspect. He could be involved, he could not be involved. He could be here after the 30 [August] and he could not be here. Basically everything is up in the air.
“I’ve said the whole time that if he’s here I’m very happy, if he’s not here then I’m happy on his behalf.”
Toney hasn’t kicked a ball in anger in the Premier League for Brentford this season and the Bees are next out against Colchester United in the EFL Cup second round tonight.
It comes as Manchester United sweat over a hectic end to the transfer window. Manuel Ugarte’s switch from Paris Saint-Germain is practically done and dusted, with the midfielder joining for a cool £50m.
And it looks like Raheem Sterling is still on the cards for the Red Devils before deadline day. The former Manchester City and Liverpool attacker has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea and Old Trafford could offer him a lifeline.
That deal all depends on what happens with Jadon Sancho, with United themselves keen to get the England man off their books.
