Ex-Chelsea hardman Vinnie Jones has dropped a bombshell suggestion that Raheem Sterling should hang up his boots following the winger’s snub by Enzo Maresca.
The Stamford Bridge legend served up this shocker as the Blues boss, who stepped into Mauricio Pochettino‘s big shoes, is on a mission to trim down their hefty squad.
The London club waved goodbye to Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, and Malang Sarr recently, and they’re not stopping there Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah, Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Armando Broja are all on the chopping block as the transfer window edges closer to slamming shut.

While the Red Devils and Chelsea are chewing the fat over a Sterling for Jadon Sancho swap, Jones reckons Sterling might just call time on his days on the pitch.
“Sterling not being in the squad was a little eyebrow raiser,” Jones confessed to the Daily Mail. “Everything comes to an end though and he’s done all right.”

Having said farewell to football himself in 1998 at 34, before smashing it in showbiz, Jones speculates Sterling might fancy calling it quits soon too.
“He scored a few goals, and he might do a job for someone else, but he’s had a fantastic career and if I was him I might think about going into something else,” reports the Mirror.
With a bank balance most would kill for, Jones advises Sterling: “He must be financially set up for life. So, go and enjoy life. He’s given the sport a lot in terms of England fans and at Liverpool and Man City.
“He’s given a lot of fans a lot of enjoyment over the years and I don’t like seeing top players like him drift down through the leagues.
“‘I hope he doesn’t do that. I had a journalist once say that I would end up back at Wealdstone. So I spent my whole career proving him wrong. What they’ve got is a massive chequebook, and they’re desperate to get back to the days under Roman Abramovich, aren’t they?
“I think you’ll see quite a few of them, sort of either left out or moving on in the last week of the transfer window, as that’s a b****y big squad to pay wages to. With 40 odd players, I don’t know how that’s going to pan out.”
Raheem Sterling sealed a £47.5million switch from Manchester City to Chelsea in 2022 and has netted 19 times for the Blues in 81 showings across all contests.
