Bullies of the world beware – Caio Borralho is leading the fight for the revenge of the nerds.
Former maths and chemistry tutor turned MMA star Borralho subscribes to the theory of brains over brawn and embraced that ethos when forming ‘The Fighting Nerds’ gym in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with head coach Pablo Sucupira, who was originally a copywriter for an ad agency.
Borralho again proved his fight IQ, alongside his toughness, in a unanimous decision victory over fellow middleweight Jared Cannonier in Las Vegas, with the Brazilian, and his whole corner, sporting distinct nerd glasses with white tape on the rims.

‘The Natural’ is now set to break into the top five of the 185lb rankings as he looks to continue his rise as the cerebral assassin. He said: “Me and my team anticipated everything Jared would do. That’s why we are ‘The Fighting Nerds’. We calculate, we study and when the test comes, we get an A+.
“I know I inspire a lot of people at our gym, that I am a role model to them, which is a lot of responsibility for me. But I am doing my best and I just want to be considered one of the most intelligent guys that ever stepped foot inside the octagon.

“Just to be considered alongside Georges St-Pierre and Jon Jones, I know I have a lot of work to do. But I think I inspire a lot of people in the gym, outside the gym and in Brazil. I feel very happy and blessed. “But when The Fighting Nerds take over, you better watch out – it’s bully payback time.”
Dricus du Plessis has bullied his way to the top of the middleweight division and cemented his place as the man to fear with his submission win over Israel Adesanya earlier this month. However, Borralho, who is now 7-0 in the UFC, believes he will pass the octagon’s toughest test with distinction.
He added: “I can strike, I have grappling, I have durability and I have power, which I think I showed against Cannonier. This is going to take me to the belt. The mantra for this training camp was to show the new champ I have arrived.
“I think I showed that, at least a little bit. If I am not the next one (title challenger), at least when there is a conversation about who is the next one, my name is going to be around that.
“I am living my dream inside the UFC. I always wanted to be a UFC fighter and I always wanted to be a champion. I am willing to test my skills against his skills (Du Plessis). I just need a chance.”
