Asda makes change to Rewards app that might save dad and mom £138 a 12 months

Asda has unveiled a significant change to its loyalty app, which will result in millions of pounds being donated. The Cashpot for Schools campaign will make millions available to primary schools via the Asda Rewards loyalty programme.

Data reveals that a shortfall in school funding is forcing parents to fill the financial void, with 87% being asked by their child’s school to contribute money, and over half being asked to donate multiple times annually. Some parents are shelling out up to £138 per year to support their children’s schools.

The Cashpot for Schools initiative from Asda enables shoppers to fundraise for their chosen primary school by shopping with Asda’s loyalty app Asda Rewards. Customers must select their preferred primary school within the app and ensure they scan every time they shop – the supermarket will then donate 0.5% of the value of their basket to their selected school.

Schools ask parents to raise money for things like PE lessons – with equipment funded by donations

Each school’s Cashpot will be kickstarted by Asda with £50 once they register for the scheme and an additional £1 will be added to the school pot for every customer who signs up. Asda expects around £500 to be raised for each participating school.

This offer is in addition to customers’ existing Cashpot contributions, reports Bristol Live.

Joe Wicks, the nation’s favourite PE teacher and father of four, is championing the new ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative by Asda, saying: “I know first-hand from the work I’ve done in schools just how much of a difference Cashpot for Schools is going to make to kids across the country. I feel incredibly proud to be part of such an important initiative with Asda, working with a partner that is as committed to supporting families as I am. From sports facilities to nutrition, Asda shoppers’ donations will have a huge impact on primary schools around the country and after all, who doesn’t want the very best for their kids.”

Meanwhile, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, David Hills, added: “All of us at Asda are incredibly proud to launch Cashpot for Schools today which is testament to our absolute commitment to supporting families by offering real cash to primary schools nationwide. We know from our research that parents are being increasingly relied upon to support their children’s schools financially, and for many, this is a real struggle when disposable incomes are still tight. Cashpot for Schools allows families to fundraise for their school simply by shopping at Asda. We’re combining the great value shopping shoppers know and love us for with a win for their local primary school community too.”
