Experts have revealed a lesser-known trick that could save you thousands on your energy bills each year. As we move further into the year and approach Christmas, customers of British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus are bracing for rising energy costs.
However, Home Mechanics has shared a freezer hack that could save hundreds. Energy guru Noel Gillis offered some handy tips to help homeowners avoid hefty bills this winter, ahead of the new cap coming into effect on October 1.

By adjusting the temperature by seven to ten degrees when you’re asleep or out, you could save up to ten per cent on your electricity bills. This could result in savings of a staggering £1,700 for British Gas, OVO, EDF and Octopus customers from October until the next price cap in January.
He also encouraged people to clean white goods around the house, including fridges. This can be done by cleaning the coils once a year to remove any dust that hinders the machine’s efficiency, reports Birmingham Live.
For maximum safety, unplug the fridge before using a vacuum with a flat head to remove dirt and debris, he suggested.
The expert from the appliance expert group and organisation also emphasised the importance of setting the correct temperature for kitchen appliances. He advised customers to set their fridge at 37 degrees and their freezer at zero, stating that this not only keeps food fresh but also reduces energy consumption.
