Primark to launch new ‘swap store’ in UK – checklist of shops and dates

Primark, the popular budget clothing retailer, is set to introduce a new ‘swap shop’ feature in some of its largest stores. This innovative initiative will allow customers to exchange their pre-loved and vintage clothing directly in-store.

The limited series of pop-ups are due to launch this month in selected Primark locations across the UK, including London, Manchester and Birmingham. The inaugural Primark swap shop event is scheduled for Friday 13th September at the Westfield Stratford branch in London, as part of the city-wide celebrations for London Fashion Week 2024.

The swap shop will be located on the ground floor and will run for three days, concluding on Sunday 15th September. Manchester residents can also participate when the swap shop arrives at the Market Street store in the city. Customers and second-hand shoppers can find the exchange area on the store’s lower level on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th September.

Fashion enthusiasts in Birmingham will also have the opportunity to experience the Primark swap shop pop-up when it lands on Birmingham High Street on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th October, reports the Manchester Evening News.

In an exciting update for eco-conscious fashionistas, a new swap shop feature will allow participants to bring up to five pieces of clothing, including adult garments, bags, hats or scarves in good nick, to exchange for digital coins on the Verte app. These tokens can be spent on some second-hand from Verte.

Lynne Walker, head honcho of Primark Cares, said: “We truly believe in helping people to love their clothes for longer and our latest partnership with Verte allows us to do just that.”

“Welcoming Verte into our stores will help us to better engage with a community of like-minded fashion lovers who really care about where their clothes will go to next. We hope our pop-ups will encourage more people to participate in the growing circular fashion economy and with an opportunity to do so in their local Primark store. We’ve all got clothes in our wardrobe we keep meaning to wear but never get around to, so we’re excited to see Verte give new life to the clothing swapped by our customers and colleagues.”

Jessica Brunt, the brains behind Verte, spilled the tea on their exciting link-up with Primark, saying: “We’re really excited to be partnering with Primark on this swap shop initiative because they are passionate about driving in-store experiences, not only in London but across the UK. Swapping is a great way to access pre-loved in an affordable and inclusive way and the more people who are exposed to the idea, the better it is for the planet and for the future of shopping.”
