Homeowners renting out drives to Oasis followers who want parking for reunion gigs

Homeowners are raking in as much as £500 to rent out their driveways to Oasis fans who want a parking space for gigs.

Spaces near next year’s reunion tour concert venues are at a premium and homeowners are cashing in.

The legendary Manchester band are playing 17 nights at just five venues allowing homeowners to rent out their drives for between two and five nights on the trot. A total of 3,000 driveway bookings were made on the first day tickets went on sale last week.

Overall there has been a 200 per cent increase in demand for spaces around the gigs in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin.

Cardiff saw a 218 per cent increase in searches for parking spaces near the Principality Stadium for the two dates on July 4 and July 5 next summer.

There was another 131 per cent increase in searches for spaces around Heaton Park in Manchester for the five gigs there July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20.

And there was another 93 per cent increase in searches for the four Wembley Stadium gigs on July 25, 26, 30 and August 2.

There was a further 150 per cent increase in searches for spaces for the three Murrayfield gigs in Scotland on August 8, 9 and 12.

The parking app JustPark analysed its search data after concert tickets went on sale last week to come up with the findings.

It lists 50,000 private parking spaces in residential driveways around the UK with homeowners renting parking spaces to 13 million registered users of the app.

CEO and founder Anthony Eskinazi said: “We’ve seen thousands of Oasis fans really roll with it this past week when it comes to parking for next summer’s gigs and our spaces near the venues are in hot demand.

“We have some space owners who have already made £500 individually for pre-booking out their parking spaces on concert nights.

“We know from experience with other major events such as Wimbledon and the recent Taylor Swift tour that renting out your parking space is a really simple way for those living near these venue, or even on the public transport route, to make some extra cash while helping concert-goers have a stress-free experience.

“I am one of those fans who who already has a space booked for Wembley next year.

Researchers also found owners of parking spaces near big sports grounds and concert venues rent out their spaces ahead of big events for 57 per more annually than the UK average.

Owners of driveways in prime locations can make £4,000 a year by renting their paces according to JustPark.
