Active shooter at Colorado condo advanced

An active shooter is on the loose at an apartment complex in Colorado.

Police were called to the Arista Flats in Broomfield, northwest of Denver, on Thursday morning.

Residents have been told to shelter in place and avoid the area. 

Cop were reporting shots still being fired as of 8.07am local time and described it as a ‘fluid situation’ which ‘has not been resolved’ two hours later.

A SWAT team and crisis negotiators have been drafted in to help deal with the emergency.

SWAT teams and negotiators have been drafted in to deal with the ongoing situation, police said

‘The surrounding area is NOT SAFE,’ Broomfield Police said in a statement. ‘Limited evacuations have been done. Everyone else please avoid the area.’

The police also confirmed that nearby Jefferson Academy is ‘on secure’. 

‘When a building is on secure it is business as usual inside the school,’ the statement said. The doors are locked, no one is coming or going.
