Emily In Paris’ fourth season came to a dramatic conclusion, as the second run of episodes finally hit Netflix on Thursday.

After fans were left waiting for three whole weeks for the second half of the season, the show took a surprise dip away from the city that has become so focal, it’s in the show’s title, with the titular heroine enjoying a sunny jaunt to Rome.

With her love life once again at the forefront, fans were left guessing whether Emily would rekindle her romance with Gabriel, or start a new life across Europe with hunky Italian newcomer Marcello.

For much of the new episodes, it seemed that Emily’s romance with Gabriel was well and truly over, having grown increasingly uncomfortable about his close relationship with his ‘pregnant’ ex Camille.

However, mere hours after Emily broke off their romance, and brought an early end to her festive trip to the French Alps, Camille finally confessed to Gabriel that she was never expecting.

Emily In Paris’ fourth season came to a dramatic conclusion on Thursday, as our titular heroine made a surprise move from her beloved French city to Rome

After fans were left waiting for three whole weeks for the second half of the season, the show took a surprise dip away from the city that has become so focal

For much of the new episodes, it seemed that Emily’s romance with Gabriel was over having grown increasingly uncomfortable about his close relationship with his ‘pregnant’ ex Camille

It appeared to be too little, too late for Gabriel and Emily, with the latter instead jumping on a plane to travel to Rome.

While soaking up the sights of the stunnign Italian countryside, Emily suggested to Marcello that he and his mother Antonia could meet with her boss Sylvie with the prospect of expanding their brand with her marketing company.

Marcello is reluctant to turn his family business into a larger brand, with the fear it will lose its cosy roots, however in season four’s final episode, he relents.

There’s one small snag, with Emily and Sylvie failing to note that they don’t have an office in Rome, with her ever-unfazed boss even bringing an end to her romance tryst with Giancarlo, with the declaration that they will find a spot.

Calling in a last-minute favour, Emily and Sylvie attempt to fool Marcello and Antonia into believing that they do have a base in Italy, and at first, it seems their plans were a success.

The pair agree to work with Agence Grateau, but then reveal that they were never fooled by their insistence of an Italian base, but instead were won over by Emily’s passion for the project.

While Emily originally tells Marcello that she plans to return to Paris, Sylvie then drops the bombshell that she would like her to stay in Rome and set up a new, permanent office there.

With best pal Mindy’s promise that she will join her there, Emily eagerly accepts the offer, and prepares to move a stunning new apartment.

However, hours after Emily broke off their romance, and brought an early end to her festive trip to the French Alps, Camille finally confessed to Gabriel that she was never pregnant

In the fourth season’s final episode, Emily and Sylvie finally land a meeting with Marcello with the prospect of helping market his business, forcing them to create a fake office in the city

However, while it seems that this will give her full freedom to explore her relationship with Marcello, viewers learn that it’s a very different story with Gabriel.

Having finally earned a Michelin star for his restaurant, and politely turning down Genevieve’s advances, Gabriel decides to fly over to Rome and reunite with Emily.

In the fourth season’s closing moments, viewers see Gabriel pleading with someone for knowledge of Emily’s whereabouts, while she, blissfully unaware, rides off into the sunset with Marcello on a Vespa.

Viewers will have to wait and see whether a possible fifth season will bring Emily back to her on/off flame, or if this is the end of their relationship for good.

The new episodes also featured a surprise cameo from French First Lady Brigette Macron, after star Lily Collins first teased her appearance ahead of the release.

‘The idea of the cameo came to us when Darren Star and I met her at the Elysée Palace in December 2022,’ she said

The new episodes also featured a cameo from French First Lady Brigette Macron, after star Lily Collins first teased her appearance

‘She is a big fan of the show and took the mention of her in season 1 with great humour. This scene in season 4 is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honour and a real joy.’

Netflix are yet to confirm whether the show will be renewed, however creator Darren Star recently told Deadline: ‘I definitely think the show has a life beyond next season. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end.’

Emily In Paris was created by Sex and the City writer Darren Star, who has admitted he understands why viewers have made comparisons between Lily’s character and Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

He said: ‘I get why people will link the two series. Each takes place in a glamorous city with a female lead but the idea of Emily In Paris was very different. I’ve wanted to write a show about an expatriate living in Paris for quite some time.’
