The best of British heritage welcomed the best of British talent as Burberry presented its latest collection during London Fashion Week on Monday.

The enduringly popular fashion house debuted the forthcoming range in front of a celebrity-packed front row at Southbank’s National Theatre.

Those in attendance included retired Manchester United and England footballer Rio Ferdinand and his former reality TV star wife Kate.

The couple inevitably caught the eye as they made their way into the central London venue as day two of the week long fashion extravaganza continued in earnest.

Kate, 33, looked typically stylish in a buckled tan co-ord while attending the event with Rio, who opted for a sleeveless shirt and generously cut dress trousers.

Joining the party, Jodie Turner-Smith claimed her own share of the spotlight in a Burberry check kilt with a daring thigh-high slash.

The actress, 38, completed her look with a bucked leather jacket and matching ankle boots, while a deep green leather handbag served as her only notable accessory.

After attending the JW Anderson show with son Lennon on Sunday, Patsy Kensit was back on the front row in a classic black shirt dress that partially exposed her cleavage.

The British star, 56, rounded off her ensemble with leather boots and a check patterned handbag from the brand’s latest collection.

Elsewhere former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall took a break from promotional commitments in order to attend Monday’s show.

The singer, who recently launched a solo career with debut single Angel Of My Dreams, wore a tan leather jacket and pleated trousers.

Jade, 31, rounded off the look by wearing a scarf emblazoned with the brand’s iconic check signature.

Luxury fashion giant Burberry – a London fashion Week veteran – is one of the handful of brands publishing scientific targets with its materials and production techniques.

Known for its tartan branding, the fashion house recently raised its emission reduction goals and hopes to be carbon neutral by 2040.

But BFC chief executive Caroline Rush said: ‘To set carbon reduction targets, you need a team to be able to measure your targets, understand how to reduce them and then report on them.

‘For a small business that’s quite a challenge.’

To help, the BFC now has some 50 businesses that will go through its “low carbon transition” programme for designers.

Ideally, advocates say the programme should be extended to help brands monitor and report their carbon reduction plans.
