Harry Kane breaks Champions League report as he nets hat-trick for Bayern

Harry Kane has broken Wayne Rooney’s Champions League record for the most goals scored by an English player in the competition.

The former Spurs striker scored four in Bayern Munich’s 9-2 thumping of Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb to take his goal total in the competition to 34 – smashing Rooney’s previous record of 30.

The nine goals were the most ever scored in a Champions League game with three of Kane’s coming from the penalty spot. The Englishman is known for his ability to strike under pressure from 12 yards and is on top form at the moment.

It was a night of records for the German giants with club legend Thomas Muller also coming off the bench to make his 152nd appearance for the club in Europe’s premier competition – the most for a player at a single club.

Bayern are hoping that this can be their year with the Champions League trophy having eluded them since they last won it back in 2020.

While he will be pleased with the latest in a long line of records he has, silverware is what Kane really wants and you can tell he’s hungry for it.

The 31-year-old has now scored an incredible 53 goals in just 50 games for the Bavarian club proving that he was more than worth the investment.

They went without a trophy last season thanks to Bayer Leverkusen’s dominant campaign in Germany so they have a point to prove. If they are to lift the biggest trophies again then Kane will play a pivotal part.
