“It should not have happened,” Tate, who is Black, told NBC Miami. “We were all in a crowd. I was trying to hold onto him to avoid him slamming me.” A viral clip showing the incident was posted on Instagram and shows the police officer grabbing Tate by the shoulders and flipping her to the ground.
When Tate gets back up the officer grabs her again while parents and students alike fight each other in chaotic scenes.
According to a police report, Tate “became combative and resisted Sergeant Odige by tensing and pulling away. The defendant continued being combative and attempted to strike Sergeant Odige with a closed fist to the face.”

She added: “When I got up, he pulled me back down, like slammed me back down, and one of the officers was stepping on my hairAnd then they cuffed me and put me in the back of the police car.”
Tate is currently under “house detention” and cannot leave except for school, church or situations of emergency.
