Two males arrested after teenager hit in crash throughout police chase

Two men have been arrested as a teenager was left fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car involved in a high-speed police chase.

Police were pursuing a vehicle believed to be travelling above the speed limit in Bradford yesterday evening, when the suspect car hit a pedestrian.

The victim, 17, was rushed to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. 

Officers have arrested two men aged 33 following the incident at 8.25pm on Halifax Road.

Video footage showed a casualty lying in the middle of the road with their arms outstretched following the incident.

A severed lower leg was shown just metres away on the street.

One man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, while the other was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. 

Both suspects remain in police custody. 

The road was closed while investigations were carried out and has since reopened. Photos of the collision scene, which was opposite a Tesco store, showed debris scattered across the road.

West Yorkshire Police said it had voluntarily referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
