Cole Palmer was quick to share his praise for former Manchester City team-mate Morgan Rogers as he made his Champions League debut with Aston Villa.
Rogers shone as part of Villa’s squad that trounced Young Boys 3-0 on Tuesday evening, impressing in Unai Emery’s midfield. Palmer, who kicked it around with Rogers back in their Man City youth days before both took different paths in 2023, spread the love for the up-and-coming midfield maestro on Instagram with just two words.
Posting about his stunning European night, Rogers wrote: “I used to pray for times like this. My Champions League debut,” to which Palmer simply responded: “My boy.” The touching online moment from 22-year-old Palmer shows he’s kept a big heart for his old mates from Man City times, cheering them on even after moving on himself, reports the Mirror.

Recently, Palmer’s been handing out some epic props and leaving naughty nicknames for another City legend – kit man Brandon Ashton. After a whopping 15 years, Ashton is bowing out from City and shared his emotional farewell on social media.
His Insta post read: “After 15 years at Manchester City I have decided to leave my role at the club to explore other career paths. I have had some great experiences, met some amazing people who I know will be friends for life. For me and my family I feel it is the right time to start a new chapter, and see what new challenges I can be set.
“I will always hold Manchester City close to my heart as this club has brought me from a boy to a man. The memories I have over my time at City will forever be cherished. I want to thank all the players, management and back room staff I have worked with and also the fans I have had the pleasure to converse with over the years.

“I wish the lads nothing but the best this season and in the future. Brandon.” City staff and current stars flooded Ashton’s post with well-wishes, among them a playful jibe from Chelsea’s Palmer, who playfully quipped: “B****** chops.”
After switching allegiances from Etihad to Stamford Bridge in summer 2023 for a cool €47 million (£39.5m), Palmer has been on fire for Chelsea, racking up an impressive 45 goal involvements – 26 goals and 19 assists – in just 51 appearances.
Under the guidance of new gaffer Enzo Maresca, he’s kicked off the season in fine form, boasting one goal and four assists in just four Premier League outings. Chelsea’s next challenge is a jaunt to London Stadium for a clash with West Ham United on Saturday, followed by a return to their home turf for a Carabao Cup third-round showdown against Barrow come September 24.
