Sun chasing Brits warned to not go to vacation hotspot as Storm Boris hits Europe

The fabulous Spanish sunshine is taking a rain check, with Spain urging UK tourists to brace for impact as the remnants of Storm Boris are set to stir up some serious weather woes.

Brit travellers are being advised to take “precautions” amid a grim outlook for the week ahead.

Spain’s very own weather wizards AEMET, akin to Britain’s beloved Met Office, have raised the red flag over impending thunderstorms and downpours set to drench much of the sun-soaked Iberian Peninsula right through to the weekend.

Expect a bout of Mediterranean mayhem starting from Wednesday, as forecasters at AEMET predict the whole Spanish mainland will get a taste of instability by the weekend, courtesy of a chilly air mass stirring trouble in high altitude isolationaptly named DANA.

Jose Miguel Vinas, a knowledgeable meteorologist at Meteored, paints the picture: “This retrograde movement, with the lengthening of a trough towards the west-southwest, will cause a progressive increase in atmospheric instability that will end up extending over a large part of the peninsula.”

Spanish shores are set for a battering with the approaching storms setting sights on the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic beauties from the northeast. Anticipate a wet and wild Wednesday as showers and thunderstorms engulf vast swathes of eastern half.

Morning time brings heavy, lingering bouts particularly for coastal strips of the Valencian Community and Catalonia, but come afternoon, the tempest takes to the interior regions, reports Birmingham Live.

Teruel and the Pyrenees are particularly likely to experience these conditions, with hail also a possibility. The weather is set to persist until Thursday, impacting a large portion of the peninsular territory and the Balearic Islands.

Meanwhile, moisture from the Mediterranean will continue to be supplied, and winds over the southwest of the peninsula are expected to intensify.

AEMET predicts that showers associated with thunderstorms will continue, becoming more likely in the afternoon. Showers are anticipated across Friday and Saturday.

The storm “will hit particularly hard in the Valencian Community and Aragon”, Vinas adds.

He stated: “Thunderstorms will occur in many other areas of the peninsula as well as in the Balearic Islands, which could be locally heavy, apart from a general and marked drop in temperatures.”
