Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘presents £84m’ to purchase European membership

Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly made a bid to buy French Ligue 1 club FC Nantes.

The England international – whose contract is due to expire next year, leading to links with a move to Real Madrid – has been in talks with the club’s current owner, French businessman Waldemar Kita.

According to French sports daily L’Equipe, Alexander-Arnold and his father, Michael, have offered €100million (£84m) for the club – €80m upfront, an additional €20m later, and potentially another €40m in bonuses. However, it seems their offer fell short of Kita’s expectations during a meeting in London last Thursday.

The Nantes boss is reportedly ‘furious’ about the leak and has denied the reports. Before settling on Nantes, who currently fifth in the French top-tier, Alexander-Arnold had considered buying AS Saint-Etienne, who Nantes face this weekend, and Le Havre – he already owns a minority stake in the French Formula 1 team, Alpine F1.

Aside from takeover discussions, the contract situation of Liverpool’s vice-captain, along with interest from long-standing admirers Madrid, has left some supporters worried about his future at Anfield, reports the Mirror.

A recent article from The Independent disclosed that the in-demand right-back is still evaluating the post-Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, with new head coach Arne Slot now in charge at Anfield.

He emphasised his calmness over the fact that Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are all within the last 12 months of their contracts recently, where he also stated that there was no news to share regarding new deals.

So far this season, barring last weekend’s hiccup against Nottingham Forest, Trent and his team-mates have adapted well to life under their new boss.

However, the Liverpool-born defender did show signs of discontent after being replaced by Connor Bradley on the 73rd minute of the Reds 2-0 victory. Trent looked clearly annoyed as he took his seat on the bench, but Slot swiftly addressed him with a few words seemingly to comfort the England man.

After proceedings, Slot elaborated on what occured, he said: “He didn’t look that happy after being taken off, you mean? I understand. Every player wants to play 90 minutes but I don’t think the players that were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choices I made.”

He added: “But Trent came back from the national team where at the beginning of the tournament he played quite a lot, then he didn’t, had a few weeks off, came back, it’s only his third game and we have to take care of him as well because we need him for the whole season and not only the first two games. The good thing for me is that I have a very good back-up as well with Conor [Bradley], so that means we are taking care of Trent. But he played a good game, that’s also what I saw.”

The relationship between the pair looks to have improved as Trent has started in all three games since – including the Reds 1-3 victory over AC Milan to get their UEFA Champions League campaign up and running on Tuesday evening.
