Alan Shearer is one of England’s most prolific goalscorers and a highly respected football pundit – but he leads a private life that remains largely unknown to fans.
Starting his career at Southampton, the former Newcastle United striker cemented his legendary status in the game by scoring 206 times for the Magpies. However, Shearer’s career wasn’t solely about scoring goals as he also clinched the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.
The now 54-year-old set a transfer record when he moved from Rovers to Newcastle for £15million in 1996. He still holds the all-time scoring record in English top-flight history, having netted an astounding 260 goals during his playing days.

Now renowned for his media work with the BBC, Amazon and his podcast, The Rest is Football, where he discusses the latest happenings in the game with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, Shearer is becoming as well-known off the pitch as he was on it. But what do viewers really know about the England legend?
What is Shearer’s net worth?
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Shearer has a staggering net worth of $52.5million (£39.2million). It’s believed that he earns £380,000 annually for his role on Match of the Day, based on recent figures from the Beeb, as per the Mirror.
Despite being a key contributor to the show, he recently faced a shocking pay cut. The former striker had to endure a whopping £65,000 reduction in his salary.
Before this significant cut, Shearer was raking in an annual £445,000 from the corporation. The Amazon Prime Video commentator’s earnings are also nowhere near those of his colleague and Match of the Day host, Gary Lineker, with the ex-Leicester forward currently earning a staggering £1,350,000 per year.
In addition to his roles with the BBC and Amazon, Shearer also worked for Al-Jazeera on media duties, which is believed to have netted him a tidy sum.
The former goalscorer also had a profitable deal with Umbro throughout his career and sported their boots for most of his time on the pitch. The deal was estimated to be worth £1.33m a year and he once revealed how he rejected a tempting offer from rival brand Adidas, which was worth £600,000 more, to stick with the British company.
Who is Shearer’s wife?
Shearer is wedded to his partner Lainya. The couple met while the prolific forward was still playing for Southampton.
They tied the knot a few years later in a private wedding ceremony on June 8, 1991. Lainya prefers to keep things low-key, which means their relationship has largely remained out of the spotlight.

However, fans have noted how youthful Lainya looks even now, with several people commenting on how the 54-year-old bears a striking resemblance to her daughters.
Not much is known about Lainya, but she’s occasionally popped up in a few of Alan’s anecdotes. A particularly memorable one dates back to when he took up the challenge at Blackburn Rovers in ’92.
At the time, Lainya was pregnant with their first child, Chloe, and she let slip how she wasn’t exactly pleased about moving house. On an episode of The Rest is Football, Shearer said: “She was eight months pregnant and looked at me in the car and said, ‘what the f*** have you done?'”
Who are Shearer’s children?
Alan and Lainya have two daughters and one son. Chloe, 33, Hollie, 29, and Will, 23, all have a major presence on social media.
While Shearer had to playfully scold Will for goading AC Milan fans after a Champions League game in 2023, it appears his two daughters have a slightly more low-key side to them. Chloe has been romantically linked with Micky Young – a 35-year-old former scrum-half widely known for his time with Newcastle Falcons, who recently made a switch to Gloucester.
She is also believed to be carving out her own path in talent management and has recently played a role in Soccer Aid. However, it’s Hollie who is writing her own headlines.
The singer songwriter hopeful has over 80,000 followers on Instagram. As well as her being known for her fashion and beach content, Hollie also regularly shares her songs and inspirational posts.
The 29-year-old has also gained interest for her love life which has seen her partner up with rugby union talent, Joe Marchant, who plays for Stade Francais and England’s national squad. Their romance is said to have begun in February 2022 and they now share a luxury home in Paris.
However, Alan did had something to say when asked about Hollie partnering up with a sports star. Quizzed about the budding relationship, he quipped: “I’m just glad it’s not a footballer.”
