The survey aimed to reveal the tactics being used by partners to check if their other halves were playing away – with other techniques including activating tracking devices on phones and checking drawers for ‘burner phones’.

It emerged during the research had a string of WAG members – who said they have signed up to the site to check if their partners were on the site.

One high-profile WAG based in Manchester, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “My husband spent thousands on a guard dog for our mansion because he’s obviously away loads, leaving me and the kids at home.

“He started to be away a lot more than usual recently and started acting suspiciously, so I got the idea to take the dog to a specialist trainer to get him trained up on how to sniff for signs of other women’s scents on my man.

“It worked amazingly well and now I have a dog who gives me signals if he detects a whole series of different perfumes and cosmetics we trained him to detect.

“I’m in no doubt I’ll know if he’s telling me my man has come home with the stink of another woman on him, and I’ve been telling my WAG pals to do the same.”

Illicit Encounters also found WAGS are signing up to the dating site just to check if their partners are being unfaithful.

The site’s relationship expert Jessica Leoni said: “It’s a sad reality that trust is a rare commodity in many high-profile relationships.

“With footballers travelling constantly and spending nights away, the fear of infidelity looms large.

“We never thought out research into how people were checking for signs of how their partners were cheating would uncover this technique – it’s amazing, but costly, so it’s no wonder WAGS are the ones turning to it as they have millions at their disposals.

“These WAGS are using dogs to sniff out unfamiliar scents—perfume, shampoo, or even another woman’s hair—on their partners’ clothes. In some cases, they’ve turned their partners’ own beloved pets against them.

“Footballers playing away really had better watch out and give themselves a massive scrub before going home if they don’t want to prick up the suspicions of these dogs.”

Some dogs are even being used to sniff their partners’ cars and luggage when returning from away matches.

Jessica added: “This new tactic is certainly a creative one, but it shows just how desperate some women are to uncover the truth. It’s the latest in a long line of extreme methods we’ve seen among WAGS – which have also included tracking their partners’ phones and hiring private detectives.

“But this is the first time we have heard of them using man’s best friend to catch them out.”

The survey also revealed more than a third (34%) of suspicious women admit to using dogs to ‘investigate’ their partner’s clothing for signs of perfumes or lipstick, while 29% said they regularly check for unusual scents that could indicate cheating.

Additionally, 20% of those polled confessed to secretly joining http://IllicitEncounters.com to see if their partners had active profiles on the site.

The findings come after an Italian model claimed only 2% of Premier League footballers are faithful to their partners.

Paolo Saulino made the statement as she leapt to the defence of shamed Manchester City loverat Kyle Walker, 34, who recently fathered a secret child while married to Annie Kilner.

Paola said she has been contacted by “many” footballers on social media and said she had slept with three players from the English top division and believes “betrayal is natural” to the millionaire stars.
