Blackburn Rovers star despatched off for kick out regardless of ‘chew’ from opponent

Blackburn Rovers star Owen Beck was given his marching orders during Sunday’s Lancashire derby.

Beck, 22, was the centre of a flash point just before the 90th minute as Blackburn and Preston players clashed. Beck, who was ruffled by a challenge, reacted with a kick out on Duane Holmes away from the ball.

However, replays showed, Beck was seemingly bit in the neck by Milutin Osmajic as players had to be separated. The Welshman was furious and protested to officials, only to be met with a red card from the referee.

“Osmajic legit tried to take a chunk out of Owen Beck’s neck and was given a yellow card. Referees in the EFL are ridiculous,” one fan fumed. While a second added: “Owen Beck trying to tell the linesman that he’s been bit and he’s just ignoring him…”

Liverpool loanee Owen Beck red carded for being bitten,” a third said. And another added: “Absolutely disgusting from Osmajic. How the officials see him bite Owen Beck’s neck and only given a yellow card?”

Owen Beck appeared to be bit by Milutin Osmajic

Blackburn manager John Eustace told BBC Radio Lancashire: “Owen’s got a big bite mark on the back of his neck and it’s a shame the referee didn’t see that…

“It’s a very serious incident, no-one likes to be bitten. Everyone’s angry about it. It’s not a nice situation to be in. I’m sure the right people will see it and we’ll take it from there.

“It’s a local derby, there’s blood and thunder and bodies on the line.

“Those [Greenwood’s red card] are the challenges that you expect to see in a local derby. They’ll be disappointed their lad’s been sent off and we will be having a man sent off.”
