When people think of impolite places in the US, New York City is usually brought forward as the worst.
But a recent study has shown The Big Apple’s reputation for rudeness is actually unfounded, with several cities ranked higher than them on the effrontery scale.
Conducted by language learning platform Preply, the “rudest city to live in 2024” was voted as Miami, Florida. Locals in the ‘Magic City’ rated their fellow residents a telling 9.88 out of 10 in obnoxiousness. “If you’re in Miami, FL, Philadelphia, PA, or Tampa, FL, don’t be surprised if you come across the rudest people you’ve ever met,” Preply wrote.

People in that city apparently demonstrated “lack of care for others, being loud in shared spaces, and a lack of self-awareness”.
Taking to Reddit, some people shared their experiences of living in Miami, reportedly the “rudest city” in America.
One person took aim at the Miami-Dade Police Department, highlighting how some officers could be very unpleasant.

“MDPD, when a lost citizen asks one of your cops for directions, your officers, to the best of their abilities, should try to guide the person to their destination. ‘F**k off I’m busy’ is not acceptable,” they wrote.
Another person implored his “fellow Miamians” to “stop shooting people so much”.
“Dear Miamians, you live in Miami, a city of the great state of Florida, which belongs to the greatest country in the world, the United States,” they began.

“You are not in Gran Theft Auto 5. This is not Barranquilla,Lima, Buenos Aires, or Kingston. We do not shoot a fellow driver because he honked at you after you cut him off. We do not shoot cops because they wrote you a ticket.”
In the Prepley survey, politics also played a factor with a staggering 50% of people who took part thinking their city has become more rude ahead of the upcoming election.
An alarming 25% of people considered relocating to escape the clutches of their ill-mannered co-residents.
To go with number one on the rude list (Miami), Florida also had number three – Tampa, making it the “rudest state” on Prepley’s catalogue. California also had the unenviable honour of hosting two of the top 10, with both Oakland (fifth) and Long Beach (ninth) featuring.
