Pub serves up Britain’s ‘longest ever Bratwurst’ to rejoice Oktoberfest

A British pub has cooked up the UK’s ‘longest ever Bratwurst’, measuring a whopping 12.12m, in time for Oktoberfest celebrations. The record-breaking sausage was served at a pub in Droitwich Spa, Worcs, and is believed to be the longest ever made in the UK.

The giant German delicacy, topped with crispy onions and curry ketchup, was created to symbolise the 1,212km distance from The Castle pub to Theresienwiese, Munich, the birthplace of the international beer festival.

The colossal bratwurst was supplied by ‘The Sausage Man’ Marc Razzell, who stuck to the traditional recipe for the culinary beast. Greene King-owned chain, Seared Pubs, approached Mr Razzell to create the showstopper, a challenge he eagerly accepted.

“We’ve been making bratwursts for decades using a recipe that’s been handed down from generation to generation in Germany,” said Mr Razzell. “It’s as traditional as you can get. It’s exciting to know that there will be enough of this authentic bratwurst for everyone to try, alongside other Oktoberfest staples like schnitzel and Bavarian beer.”

Oktoberfest, one of the world’s largest festivals, kicks off on Saturday, attracting six million visitors annually. The 189-year-old event is renowned for its overflowing beer steins and hearty food, with similar events taking place worldwide in tribute.

In the town, hundreds of revellers indulged in bratwurst to mark the occasion, with the pub also hosting stein-holding competitions and an Oompah band to introduce an Oktoberfest-themed menu. According to the Guinness World Records, the longest sausage ever made measured a staggering 62.75km – nearly 39 miles – and was produced in Ploiesti City, Romania in 2014.

Rebecca Hall, General Manager at The Castle, commented: “Droitwich Spa is a long way from Munich, so we wanted to give our customers a taste of Oktoberfest in their local pub – and make history with the longest bratwurst in the Midlands. Our team had a lot of fun grilling this authentic bratwurst and will be delighted to serve customers German bratwurst from the same recipe and other Oktoberfest favourites until the end of October.”
