Ryan Searle delivers ‘worst 9 dart try ever’ whereas opponent takes out 161

Darts fans have joked that Ryan Searle delivered one of the worst nine dart attempts in history.

Heavy Metal looked on his way to the fourth nine-darter of the weekend at the Hungarian Darts Open as he nailed to maximums – leaving him with 141. While Gian van Veen could only stand and watch as Searle raised the roof in Budapest.

However, Searle would sink his first dart into 1, his second into T1, and his third into T3 – leaving fans in stitches. And even Searle himself couldn’t help but laugh, as he walked away with the minuscule score.

“What is that 9 dart attempt,” one fan joked on X, formerly known as Twitter. However, another said: “Let’s see how you get on throwing a nine then admin, reckon it will provide more than one!”

Heavy Metal, despite being in a commanding lead could only stand and watch as Van Veen battled back before sinking a 161 with a T20, T19 and then the bullseye.

Van Veen would make his way into the final, but he would be bested by a Michael van Gerwen who looks to finding his feet again.

“I think I played a really good tournament,” said Van Veen in his post-match interview afterwards.

“I was just happy this weekend to get over the quarter-finals, and to beat Ryan in the semi-finals was an amazing bonus. But when you’re in the final you want to win it. Even though Michael is a fantastic player I missed some chances, and Michael was the deserved winner.

“I’m only 22 years old, and to push Michael van Gerwen this far in the final is an amazing feeling. Of course I’m disappointed. But Michael’s 110 finish shows his class. He’s the deserved winner today and congratulations to him.”
