Adventurer Ed Stafford has revealed his secrets about fatherhood and insisted that he doesn’t want his new Channel 4 series Into The Jungle to ‘blame people for being bad parents’.
In his newest project, the world-renowned explorer and former British Army captain, 48, leads six dads and their kids on an extreme jungle adventure designed to bring them closer.
Into The Jungle With Ed Stafford premieres on Tuesday and will see the fathers and their children strengthen their relationships by surviving together in the Belize jungle while taking on a series of tasks and challenges.
Speaking to The Telegraph ahead of his new show, the explorer opened up about some of the challenges of parenthood.
He candidly admitted: ‘In this world of video games, social media and personal devices, it’s difficult to be a good dad.

‘I don’t want this programme to be about blaming people for being bad parents. [In everyday life] you don’t have these big, intense challenges.’
Tired of routine, Ed, his wife Laura Bingham, and their three children, upped sticks and moved to Costa Rica last year, where they had a fourth child.
But as this is not a realistic solution for everyone, Ed’s advice for other struggling parents is to ‘pay more attention to each other’.
He explained: ‘We’ve got to spend more time doing stuff together. I do think it starts at family meals, no phones allowed in here.’
According to TV Zone, the extreme survival school is attempting to put dads back in touch with their ‘purpose as male role models’.
The programme will follow ‘ordinary, struggling, out-of-their-comfort-zone British dads’ who will embark on the adventure with one of their children.
From sleeping in home-made shelters to catching and cooking their own food, the families will be tested in ways they never have before.
Gushing about the new reality show on Instagram, Ed penned: ‘Tuesday night 9:30pm @channel4 (after Bake Off) is the first episode of #IntoTheJungle.

‘I really hoped this project would work. It’s more aligned to how I live my life now than anything else I’ve filmed. We had the best crew working on it. It worked.’
