Darts star James Wade came up with a comical explanation after apparently letting out a massive fart during his triumph over Callan Rydz at the Players Championship.
Wade sailed to a 6-5 win over Rydz, but it was his antics away from the oche that sparked chatter. The 41-year-old was spotted on camera strolling over to a table after the 11th leg of the match, which he won. Wade then slightly bent his knees as the sound of a loud fart, clearly audible on the video feed, echoed through the venue.
Post-match, Wade also shared a humorous statement on his social media platforms, attributing the fart noise to an unlikely source. “I feel I must address a situation following my run to the semi-finals of PC22 today,” Wade wrote.

The Express reports he added: “Footage has emerged of me doing what appears to be a ‘shart’ at the end of one of my matches. It was actually the velcro on my new trainers. I now consider this matter put to bed as I don’t wish to talk about it again.”
Wayne Mardle, a regular pundit on Sky Sports, was left in fits of laughter after viewing a clip of the incident on social media. Posting on X, he shared the video with his 174,000 followers, captioning it: “HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH.”
The video quickly went viral, but Wade remained unfazed, securing a 6-5 victory over Rydz. However, he lost his next match to Gary Anderson, who executed three impressive finishes to claim a 7-4 win. Anderson had previously been embroiled in his own flatulence controversy when Wesley Harms accused him of passing wind during the Grand Slam of Darts in 2018.
Anderson, who vehemently denied being the source of the ‘rotten egg’ odour, said: “If the boy thinks I’ve farted he’s 1,010 per cent wrong. I had a bad stomach once on stage before and admitted it, so I’m not going to lie about farting on stage.”
He added: “Every time I walked past there was a waft of rotten eggs so that’s why I was thinking it was him. It was bad. It was a stink, then he started to play better and I thought he must have needed to get some wind out. If somebody has done that they need to see a doctor.”
