Gen-Z TikToker payments soccer ‘the following bottomless brunch’

A TikToker has sparked fury among football fans after boasting about turning her matchday experience into a bottomless brunch.

Gen-Zer Paige, who goes by @travelsbypaige on social media, provoked a huge backlash after posting a video of herself enjoying the luxuries of a matchday box at  Tottenham’s London stadium.

The video showed her attending Spurs’ game against Brentford on Saturday while enjoying a host of extravagant add ons as part of hospitality company Seat Unique’s ‘Premium’ experience.

These included a three course meal cooked by a private chef, a complimentary bar, heated seats with a picturesque view of the pitch and even got to meet some club legends as part of the experience.

Paige then ended the video by saying ‘maybe football is the new bottomless brunch’ – a statement that has seemingly riled up some hardcore footie fans.

Users responding to the video on X labelled it ‘painful’, while others simply remarked that the ‘games completely gone’.

Amid a flurry of angry comments about the video, one user wrote: ‘What happened to a pint and a pie, games completely gone.’

Another added: ‘Football makes me sick these days. Used to love it.’

Meanwhile, one user named Ricky fumed that ‘loyal’ football fans are no longer rewarded by their clubs, while those such as Paige are treated like luxury.

He said: ‘Money has ruined football, this will become the norm as the “loyal fans” paying for a ST and a few pints doesn’t bring the income clubs need anymore, unfortunately it’s hospitality and the people with money that do.’

Euan had the same conclusion. He wrote: ‘The worst part is football clubs would rather someone like this come to games than a ST holder who’s been going 20 years.’

Meanwhile, Tom said the lavish experiences were a sign that the ‘working class’ football he once knew was long gone.

He wrote: ‘Remember the working class sport we once had? Yeah give me the EFL over Prem 10 times out of 10.’

The experience also included a three star meal cooked by a private chef

One of the courses included a mouth watering salmon fillet topped with some flower petals

But Spurs are not the only culprits of charging extravagant amounts for luxury hospitality packages.

Chelsea has begun charging upwards of £280 per head for its Rose & Ball package as part of its hospitality offerings for regular fans.

It allows them fans a ‘first-class experience’ of dining and soaking up the action, with a former player coming along to say hello.

Residents around Stamford Bridge wrote a letter in 2023 objecting to the Rose & Ball because of issues they feel VIP matchgoers already cause.

One of the grievances was that they use their streets as car parks – with Spain’s former King Juan Carlos among the reported vehicular rogues.

‘Drug taking is very visible, drunken behaviour, urination and even defecation is often seen,’ said one resident, objecting to Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

‘Again, think of the health issues. Just consider the implications for the elderly and families.

‘One example, the King of Spain attended an event and these vehicles blocked access to our road for a lengthy period of time, engines running, fumes being emitted.’

Stamford Bridge locals are up in arms about a new hospitality package as they think it will cause more parking issues and antisocial behaviour

The Rose & Ball hospitality package will have prices ranging from £280 to £675 for VIPs

Another added: ‘For a recent match we had the King of Spain’s entourage’s vehicles hovering in front of our house for two hours.

‘All the roads around here become a double parking waiting lot for VIPs, their drivers, and their vehicles. This is a crime and causes disorder as most of these cars are illegally parked.’

Disgraced former king Juan Carlos watched Real Madrid beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League last season before jetting off to Vigo.

The Rose & Ball experience is spread across in the ‘health club’ outside Stamford Bridge as well as a currently unused space.

The cheapest ticket will weigh in at £280, rising to £675 for the highest category, and it has been advertised as a ‘lower-mid tier’ offering.

The row over extravagant hospitality tickets has even transcended into the world of politics as Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been facing a backlash for accepting tickets for a box at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium.

Arsenal has made two corporate seats available to Sir Keir in Emirates Stadium, which the PM says he took for security reasons.

Sir Keir has accepted nearly £40,000 worth of free tickets for football matches over the past five years.

In fact, the PM has received many more freebies than any other MP since becoming Labour leader, receiving £107,145-worth since 2019.
