Martin Odegaard updates followers on ‘unhealthy’ harm as Arsenal face midfield disaster

Arsenal’s skipper Martin Odegaard has opened up on his ankle injury that’s left him in the dark about a comeback date.

The midfield maestro suffered the injury while turning out for Norway on international duty earlier this month – causing the 25-year-old to miss out on the feisty north London derby against Spurs and he was also nowhere to be seen during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City last Sunday.

Arsenal fans have been desperate for an update on his injury – and Odegaard has now admitted to fans he doesn’t know when he’ll be able to return to the pitch.

Writing in the matchday programme ahead of the Carabao Cup clash with Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday, Odegaard said: “It’s been a while since my last programme notes, so I thought I would start with the latest on my injury.

“It was a bad twist to my ankle, and I damaged some ligaments there, but it’s part of football and now I’m just trying to recover as quickly as I can. I’m moving forward, making progress and I’m feeling more positive every day,” reports the Express.

“I’m working hard and my only thought is to get back as soon as possible.”

With Arsenal gunning for the Premier League title, how they fare without their talisman could make or break their dreams. Ahead of the Manchester City clash, boss Mikel Arteta confessed his captain is the lifeblood of the team.

“He’s our captain. He’s been one of the biggest and best players in our team,” he declared. “Our identity is very linked to how he plays and behaves. It’s a big test for the team to see how able we are to show a different face.”
