Row over location of sizzling sauce bottle erupts into deadly knife struggle as man dies

A man has been charged with murder following a heated argument over the positioning of a hot sauce bottle that escalated into brutal violence, say police.

George Vigil, 19, is now facing one count of second-degree murder, as per the Denver Police Department, following the deadly incident at a residence near Empower Field at Mile High Stadium, home to the Denver Broncos.

The knife attack happened around 5.21pm on Sunday, September 22, officers revealed in a statement. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a victim suffering from “apparent sharp force injuries”. Despite being rushed to hospital, the individual was pronounced dead.

Police stated: “The preliminary findings of the investigation reveal that the suspect and victim were known to each other and had an argument that escalated into a physical altercation and stabbing. Investigators identified George Vigil as the suspect, placed him under arrest, and he is currently being held for investigation of second-degree murder.”

“Per standard protocol, the final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney’s Office. The Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity and cause and manner of death,” reports the Mirror US.

According to a shocking affidavit of probable cause reported by Law and Crime, 911 dispatchers received a frantic call about a stabbing incident. In the background, voices were heard screaming.

The female caller reportedly told the dispatcher she was with “two gentlemen and a female, and one gentleman with a knife” and described the injury as having struck “the gentleman on the left side of his ribs.”

The desperate plea for help was clear: “I just need somebody here right away…We need an ambulance here right away. Right now. Right now. He’s bleeding to death, please.”

A witness, whose identity remains concealed in the affidavit, claimed the victim had some sort of relationship with Vigil. Earlier that evening, the victim “arrived to visit as he usually does more than one time per week” to “check on” something or someone at the location.

The argument that led to the violent encounter was reportedly over something as trivial as the whereabouts of a bottle of hot sauce. The affidavit detailed the petty beginning of the conflict: “[The man] wanted to make a sandwich and asked where the hot sauce was. George VIGIL stated that the bottle was in his bedroom upstairs.”

The situation escalated quickly, with family members trying to separate the two men. “An argument erupted between family members over the bottle of hot sauce, which resulted in both [redacted] and [redacted] physically separating [the man] and George VIGIL away from each other”, the affidavit revealed.

“[The man] verbally challenged George VIGIL to fight by making statements to the effect of ‘Let’s take this outside,’ and began approaching him again.”

The affidavit reveals a witness claimed they saw the accused “swing an arm” before the victim “fell to the ground and began bleeding profusely,” leading to the emergency call.

Vigil was hauled before the court on Monday where he was reportedly slapped with an order to be held without bond.
