U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer undermined a serious plea for hostilities to ease in the Middle East by referring to Israeli hostages as “sausages.” (Watch the video below.)
Speaking to a Labour Party conference in Liverpool on Tuesday, Starmer said:
“I call again for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the return of the sausages — the hostages — and a recommitment to the two-state solution, a recognized Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel.”
It was clearly a slip of the tongue, but one wonders if Starmer might want to be more careful when he attends the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday.
According to the Financial Times, Starmer and his staff will push for meetings with Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Republican nominee Donald Trump while he’s stateside.
He will also once again call for an end to the conflict in Gaza, along with Ukraine and Sudan, at the U.N. Security Council, the newspaper reported.
Hopefully, he can leave the sausages talk for mealtime.
