Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw return date targets set as Man Utd damage situation rages on

Manchester United’s Europa League campaign started with an unexpected draw against Dutch side FC Twente on Wednesday, only adding to Erik ten Hag’s long list of problems.

A stunning strike from Christian Eriksen had put the Red Devils in control but a Twente leveller later in the game meant United had to settle for a point.

The result was unsurprisingly met with criticism from fans with the boss insisting United “have to be more clinical” and finish games off.

Ten Hag had to rely on the same matchday squad and was unable to make huge changes with several players still sidelined through injury.

Defenders Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are the two biggest players missing at the moment and an update on their return schedule was recently provided by the club, reports the Mirror.

Luke Shaw

The Red Devils were recently provided with a welcome injury boost as both Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund returned to action, but it’s further back where they’ve struggled this season.

Despite his preferred position being right-back, Diogo Dalot has been Ten Hag’s starting left-back this campaign due to the absence of both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

England international Shaw has not played a competitive game since Euro 2024 and his last appearance in a United shirt was all the way back in February. He’s still expected to be out until next month.

“I think it’s probably (before the international break) but I can’t say I’m 100 per cent sure. The plan is just to be back before but as I say I can’t say this 100 per cent for sure. It can also be shortly after the break,” Ten Hag said.

Leny Yoro

Yoro is yet to make his competitive debut for the club after joining in the summer from French side Lille. He suffered a bad injury during a pre-season clash with Arsenal which required surgery leaving him on the sidelines for three months.

A statement from the club in August read: “Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has today had a successful surgery on his foot injury. Our summer signing from Lille sustained the injury during the team’s recent friendly match against Arsenal in Los Angeles, USA.

“Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months.”

It’s been reported that he could make his long-awaited return in United’s clash against Arsenal in November. The Red Devils have had to rely on veteran defender Jonny Evans for cover which hasn’t been ideal.
