Most haunted place in Britain named with claims of plate-smashing poltergeists

The most haunted place in Britain has been revealed with one city hosting more spooks, spectres and ghouls than anywhere else in the country.

The West Yorkshire city of Bradford was found to have more paranormal reports of unexplained activity, ghostly sightings and ‘haunted’ homes. The study by researchers at insurance experts at the Alan Boswell Group found that Bradford scored a spooky score of 8 out of 10.

Among the famous folk from Bradford include singer Gareth Gates, Countdown legend Richard Whiteley, magician Dynamo, and singer Zayn.

Ian Barrowman, 44, of Bradford, said he’d seen two ghosts in his time. The chartered accountant said he saw one at the end of his bed when he was a teenager, and that he experienced what he believed was an encounter with a poltergeist last year.

He said: “When I was about 13 or 14 I remember waking up and seeing this apparition at the foot of the bed. It just stood there staring at me for about 20 seconds and then was gone.”

He added: “Last year when I’d just got home from the pub I heard some crashing around and all the plates and bowls in my cupboards were on the floor – smashed to bits. I live alone, so what else could it be?”
