John McDermott from the FA’s tech team is hunting for a winner for the role, and Tuchel’s Champions League triumph with Chelsea and league victories at Bayern Munich and PSG could be his ticket.

The 51-year-old gaffer is currently on the job hunt after parting ways with Bayern last season, and if he takes over the Three Lions, he’d be the third non-English boss to do so, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

He said: “People are always going to try and put their chips on one side,” and added, “I’m in the middle. My bosses have made it clear what they need from me. This job deserves a world class coach who has won trophies and I am still on the path to that.”
