National Lottery £1m winner misses out on fortune after failing to say prize

A EuroMillions player has lost out on a whopping £1m prize after snoozing on the deadline to claim their winnings.

The National Lottery has confirmed that the winning UK Millionaire Maker ticket was snapped up in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, on April 16, but the would-be millionaire didn’t step up before the 180-day cut-off point which passed on Sunday.

Despite repeated pleas for punters to double-check their stubs for the victorious code, the hefty prize went unclaimed. Andy Carter, The National Lottery’s senior winners’ adviser, lamented: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.”

“However, the money will now add to the £30m raised each week for National Lottery-funded projects.”

While the jackpot slipped through someone’s fingers, Rhondda Cynon Taf hasn’t been left completely out of luck, with local initiatives like the Rhondda Hearing Impaired Support Group bagging a cool £18,025 grant in May, reports the Mirror.

The National Lottery advises big-time winners to sign into their National Lottery account and buzz the National Lottery Line on 0333 234 50 50 to stake their claim. If you’re holding onto a paper ticket, best get down to a store or scan it using the National Lottery app, then give the National Lottery Line a ring to claim your cash.
