The Post Office has sounded the alarm about letters popping up with a free £150 boost to cheer Brits before Christmas. The nation’s letterboxes will be getting a nudge from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to keep an eye peeled for info on the Warm Home Discount scheme.
Folks with prepayment meters are being nudged by the Post Office to get cracking on claiming their Warm Home Discount vouchers as the scheme kicks off across the UK. This heads-up is hot on the heels of new Post Office figures showing that last year, a whopping £3 million in Warm Home Discount vouchers failed to find their way to rightful pockets and could be cashed in at any one of over 11,500 branches nationwide.
In the previous year, the Post Office was all hands on deck, handling 300,000 vouchers at their counters, with a massive 190,000 getting dished out during October and November alone. Postmasters and the wider Post Office team play a pivotal part in making sure customers can tap into this vital bit of support, especially when skyrocketing energy bills are tightening the financial squeeze on homes.

Today, Kevin Elson from Bache Post Office dished out his two cents: “We know many people are worried about the cost of their energy bills as the colder weather starts to set in. £150 can make a big difference, especially to people who are on pay-as-you-go meter.”
He added: “It’s really important that people are able to access the financial support schemes that are available, such as the Warm Homes Discount. That’s why postmasters, like me, and our teams stand ready to help and ensure that people can easily redeem their vouchers.”, reports Birmingham Live.
It’s crucial to use the voucher shortly after getting it, as they do have an expiry date, some in just 30 days. If the voucher is misplaced or expires, households can get in touch with their supplier for a reissue.
