Victoria Taylor’s sisters reveal torment of her disappearance

The family of missing bride-to-be Victoria Taylor have told of their torment on the two-week anniversary of her disappearance.

The care home nurse, 34, vanished from her home in Malton, North Yorkshire on Monday, September 30 and reported missing the following day.

Police believe there is a ‘significant possibility’ that she entered the fast-flowing River Derwent which runs through the market town.

On the two-week anniversary, her sisters Emma and Heidi told of their ongoing anguish.

In a statement released by North Yorkshire Police they said: ‘There are no words for us to describe how we are feeling as it’s ever-changing.

‘We have to have some sort of normality for the children. As we know, Vixx is a mum but also an auntie and Halloween is one of her favourite seasons as she is the costume queen!

‘We would like to thank the police teams as they are doing all they can, and we understand that these things take time.

‘The local community is amazing, from putting up posters to the daily walks to search for Vixx. We would like to thank the special people, you know who you are.

‘The wider community on the Facebook page with over 10,000 people sharing Vixx’s information and sending support has given us comfort. We continue to have hope, as it is all we have at this time.’

Mother-of-one Victoria left her home around 9am on Monday, September 30, and was captured on CCTV at a nearby BP garage at 11.35am and at Malton bus station at 11.53am.

Victoria then walked past a children’s play park before joining a path running alongside the Derwent.

Police have concentrated their search on a stretch of water close to where some of Victoria’s belongings, including a rucksack and a camouflage cap, were found on a riverbank.

Specialist officers continue to support Emma, Heidi and Victoria’s family and are keeping them updated on the investigation during this distressing time.

Head of Local Policing, Chief Superintendent Fiona Willey, said: ‘Over the past fourteen days we have carried out extensive enquiries to try and locate Victoria. Our focus remains on the area of the last sighting and where Victoria’s possessions were found close to the River Derwent.

‘To assist with our search capability, we are utilising police search dogs from Northumbria who are specialised in searching for people.

‘The dogs and their handlers are highly trained and are deployed to scour areas that run alongside the River Derwent.

‘In addition to this, we continue with expert-led searches by land and water involving multiple teams, including our force drone unit.

‘We are continuing to source and act on advice from national policing specialists and are issuing multiple appeals to the public and media for information.’

The ongoing search of the River Derwent has been hampered by heavy rain in North Yorkshire.

Police marine search teams are using underwater cameras sophisticated sonar technology capable of scanning the riverbed.

The ARIS system has been loaned by the Environment Agency who usually use the state-of-the-art equipment to count fish stocks.

Officers with drones have also been drafted in to comb the river and its banks from the skies.

North Yorkshire Police has ruled out any third-party involvement in the disappearance.

Four days after Victoria went missing, her fiance Matthew Williams implored his partner to return home to their daughter Nancy, two.

He told her in a tearful direct message: ‘Please come home, babe.

‘Come home to Nancy and be the mum that you know you are and can still be.’

Victoria, who is originally from Huddersfield, West Yorks, is described as white, around and 5ft 2in tall and known to friends as Vixx.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black Adidas original puffer jacket with white stripes down the sleeves, a grey Jack Wills hooded jumper and she was carrying a salmon-coloured Vans backpack.

Large missing posters have been put up in the town centre and along the A64 road between York and Scarborough. Red posters have also been put up on lampposts and in shop windows across the town.

Amateur sleuths have been accused of hampering the search by peddling baseless theories online over the disappearance.

Psychics, mediums and TikTok armchair detectives have all come under fire for speculating on her whereabouts.

After a troll lied that Victoria had been found, Victoria’s sister Emma told members to ignore ‘the idiot’.
