That’s right, WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes is a Preston North End fan – and the American has now revealed the bizarre reason behind his shock allegiance. Rhodes, who is currently in the UK, joked it was down to a fellow wrestler.
“My loyalty is really open to whoever is winning or whoever hands me their jersey at the building,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live in an interview on Monday (14 October).

“But I will say Wade Barrett has made me a Preston fan. He keeps up with Preston enough for me to know what’s going on. So I’d say that’s the favourite.
“I think years ago, literally over a year a decade ago, I tweeted something at Preston implying I was on bored with them and they took it very much to heart. Not that I was being insincere, but I don’t know how sincere I was being.
“Wade is a die-hard Preston fan and I’m a die-hard Wade fan. So if he tells me: ‘Hey champ I got you this jersey, we’re going to take a photo together that’s what we’re doing’.”
And Preston fans were quick to pick up on the video on social media. With one posting: “On a serious note, surely we could use these American links to raise the profile of the club and seek new investment!”
“Get his theme song on when the players come out the tunnel,” a second said. While a third shared: “Find it hilarious that this might lead to Cody Rhodes meeting Paul Heckingbottom and Stuart McCall…”
And another added: “Cody is a Preston fan, he hates Blackpool!”
